Currency

The official currency in Spain is the Euro.
There are coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents and 1 and 2 euros.
There are notes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euros.
Also paying with a major credit/debit card is possible at most Spanish shops and hotels.
It must be declared in Spain if you enter or take out more than 6,011 euros from the country.

Tips

It is advisable to leave tips in bars, restaurants and hotel personnel. The most usual is to leave between 10 to 15 per cent of the bill.

Shopping timetable

The usual timetable in Spain is from 9.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00. The big shopping centres open usually from 10.00 to 22.00, and sometimes even open on Sundays and bank holidays.

Amusement timetable

Bars, pubs and discoteques are usually open everyday until 3.00 or 4.00 in the morning, and weekends until 5 or 6 in the morning.

Pets

Tourists travelling with their pets must have a valid passport and should make sure before travelling that the place where they are going to stay admit pets.
If the pet is considered a dangerous animal, they should travel with their own certificate and they have to wear a muzzle at all times.
It is usually forbidden the admission of pets in bars and restaurants.

Wearing

It varies depending on the time of the year.
Autumn-Winter: The tourist should bring some winter clothes, although there are lots of sunny days during this period and you can enjoy of a mild temperature.
Spring – Winter: It is advisable to wear light clothes, although sometimes it is a bit chilly at night.

Language

The official language in Spain is the Spanish, also called Castellano.
There are also four official languages together with the Spanish that are spoken in different parts of Spain: Catalan is spoken in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands; Valenciano is spoken in the Community of Valencia; Gallego is spoken in Galicia and Euskera or Basque is spoken in the Basque Country and Navarra. There are some other languages and dialects spoken in Spain: An original Aranese language in part of Catalonia, Andalú in Andalucia, Estremeñu in Extremadura, Menorquin in the Balearic Island of Menorca, Aragonese language, still spoken in some valleys of the Pyrenees, Asturianu in Asturias, etc..
English and German is usually spoken in most hotels and tourist centres.

Measurement

The decimal metric system is used for weight and measure.

Electricity

The electricity current in Spain is 220 volts, although sometimes it is still used 125 volts.

Petrol

In the Spanish petrol stations you can find the following types of petrol:
Normal 92 octanes, Super 97, unleaded 95 or 98 octanes and gasoil.
Some petrol stations also have supermarkets, restaurants and newspaper shops.

Emergencies

In case of any emergency, please call 112, which is the emergency service for the whole of Spain.
